In our "Libre comme" series, we hit the roads, lakes, rivers, and trails of Quebec to uncover all their secrets, well-dressed and well-accompanied.
What if we told you that the best adventures don’t require long trips or complex planning? That’s exactly what Lydiane, her partner, and their little girl Zoé showed us during their getaway to Vallée Bras-du-Nord, a must-visit for outdoor enthusiasts. Just an hour from Quebec City, this destination has everything for family adventures, outings with friends, or solo escapes. No wonder it’s one of our favourites!
"Big or small, adventures are all about intention. It’s not always about epic journeys. Sometimes, it’s as simple as spending a night in a yurt, walking in the forest, and savouring every moment with those you love," shares Lydiane, who is passionate about making adventure accessible to everyone through her inspiring projects.
Vallée Bras-du-Nord is a natural playground with:
With its pastoral landscapes, cascading waterfalls, and stunning viewpoints, this valley has something for everyone, no matter the season. It was in this idyllic setting that Lydiane and her family created lasting memories.

For their escape, Lydiane and her family chose to stay in a yurt, just a 15-minute walk from the parking lot. Upon arrival, a cart was waiting to help transport their bags, supplies, and even little Zoé, making the short walk a fun and memorable part of the adventure.
Once settled, the magic began. A wood stove transformed the yurt into a warm, cozy haven, perfect for unwinding after a day outdoors. This rustic yet comfortable setting allowed the family to reconnect and fully enjoy their time together. A dream come true!
While there, the family explored the La Boucle de la Hauteur trail, a 7-kilometre loop with 285 metres of elevation gain – perfect for an engaging yet manageable hike. Well-marked and accessible, the trail features a variety of landscapes, from giant rock formations to flowing streams and the magnificent Île de Pâques waterfall.
At the summit, the lookout offers a breathtaking view of the valley, made even more magical by the golden hues of sunset. For those seeking a longer adventure, you can add a visit to the Delaney Falls. And don’t forget your crampons – some sections can be slippery, especially in fall or early winter!
Back at the yurt, the evening was all about relaxation: a candlelit dinner, a crackling fire, and moments of shared warmth. But Zoé’s boundless energy inspired a nighttime stroll with headlamps in hand. On a nearby bridge, under a sky filled with stars, the family experienced a moment of pure magic.
"Even though it was just one night away, it felt like we had a big adventure, just the three of us, far from everyday life," says Lydiane.
