Libre comme Alexe: A fresh-air ride, well-accompanied

As November settles in and the air gets noticeably colder, Alexe, an outdoor sports photographer and nature enthusiast, savours the last days of fall with a bike outing among friends. Recently settled near the Petit Train du Nord in Sainte-Adèle, Alexe loves exploring the trails and hills in her area. “Besides visiting different regions of Quebec throughout the year for work or weekends, I absolutely love coming home, gardening, and enjoying all the outdoor activities right at my doorstep,” she tells us. And while she eagerly awaits winter, this transitional season certainly won’t keep her from getting outside.

So, off they go on an adventure! Alexe and her friends hop on their bikes for a laid-back ride through the rolling fields and orchards. Under the November sky, they cycle through apple-laden hills, stopping to pick the very last apples of the season and climb trees for fun.

The fields stretch out as far as the eye can see, and the surrounding knolls reveal their final autumn hues in the shy setting sun. It’s an evening that warms the body and the soul – everything we love.

Gear up for comfort

• Insulated Windbreaker – Lightweight and breathable, a good windbreaker keeps you warm while protecting against the chill. It’s perfect for moderate efforts when you want to stay cozy without overheating!

• Thermal Pants or Waterproof Overpants – Outdoor pants offer excellent protection from the wind and dampness while keeping you comfortable. Perfect for pedaling without feeling those cold gusts.

• Neck Warmer – Soft, warm, and breathable, a bamboo neck tube is ideal for retaining warmth around your neck without bulk. A versatile essential found in the shop, perfect for those chillier rides.

• Toque – When you’re off the bike, a toque will keep you cozy and comfortable whether you're on or off the trail.

• Lined Gloves – To keep hands warm and maintain a good grip on the handlebars, insulated but flexible gloves are a must. Choose ones that offer both comfort and mobility.

• Wool or Synthetic Base Layers – A good base layer is essential for staying warm and dry. Choose moisture-wicking fabrics, especially for more intense efforts.

Two bike routes to make the most of the season

Ready to head out and ride like our crew? Try one of these two routes:

• Petit Train du Nord Trail – Sainte-Adèle to Val-Morin
  This section is perfect for a friendly 20 km round-trip ride, with lovely scenery and riverside views. Accessible for all levels, the trail lets you soak in the last fall colours and golden late-day light.

• Country Roads to Saint-Sauveur
  Starting from Sainte-Adèle, this 15 km round-trip route weaves through the rolling hills and wooded areas typical of the Laurentians. Dotted with fields and small lakes, this route is a pure joy to ride as you admire the sunset before winter blankets the landscapes.

The last days before snowfall

Take advantage of these final days of autumn biking before the first snowflakes cover the trails! It’s the perfect season to enjoy November’s freshness, whether you’re out with friends or solo, fully immersed in Quebec’s ever-changing landscape.
